For example, in the vehicle electronic system, the high speed and data volume of CAN FD and CAN XL are redundant and excessive. If they are used, it will bring huge cost pressure. Therefore, traditional CAN is still one of the main choices. In the vehicle electronic system, the traditional CAN protocol can be used for window control, electric door locks, air conditioning control, lighting management, etc. These applications use the CAN bus for data exchange between internal and external devices, ultimately achieving interaction with drivers and passengers.

For example, the engine control unit and transmission control, which have undergone minimal changes in control logic and data volume from the traditional automotive era to the intelligent vehicle era, do not require significant speed upgrades for CAN FD and CAN XL. Specifically, when it comes to the engine control unit, its function is to monitor and control various parameters of the engine, such as speed, temperature, air pressure, and fuel consumption, which can be well handled by traditional CAN protocols.

So, since high-speed CAN and low-speed CAN coexist, how can they be compatible with each other in the system? This requires CANFD and CAN XL to maintain the same speed as traditional CAN in the arbitration segment to complete data switching.
